Resolve: Aftershock procs on Fling, giving Armor and Magic Resist when an enemy lands on you. Demolish punishes the turrets you proxy next to for free plates and map pressure, Bone Plating eats bruiser trades mid-proxy, Overgrowth turns farmed minions into permanent HP.
Sorcery secondary: Nimbus Cloak grants a Move Speed burst after Ghost (your engage and escape Summoner), which stacks with Insanity Potion and the Noxious Slipstream passive. Gathering Storm adds Adaptive every 10 minutes, scaling Q damage in long games.
Vs early lane bullies (Riven, Renekton, Darius) swap Sorcery to Inspiration with Biscuit Delivery (three biscuits, at 2:00, 4:00 and 6:00, each restoring health and mana) and Cosmic Insight (+18 summoner spell haste, +10 item haste). Trades scaling for lane sustain.
Win Condition
Proxy waves between enemy turrets and stack HP from Rod of Ages and Warmog's. By minute 20 Insanity Potion plus Spirit Visage makes you uncatchable while Q ticks down chasers.
Weakness
Point-and-click hard CC (a stun, root or knock-up that locks you down) on champions Mega Adhesive cannot ground. If you cannot move, you cannot Q, and your entire kit collapses into a slow walking target.
Overview
Singed is a tank-mage specialist who wins games by being where the enemy team does not want him to be. His kit revolves around toggling Poison Trail (Q) while running through enemies, flinging priority targets out of position with Fling (E), and refusing to die long enough for his team to take an objective on the other side of the map. The top lane suits him because the long lane gives him room to proxy — kill minion waves between the enemy's tier-one and tier-two turrets — denying the enemy laner CS (the gold and XP from killing minions) and experience without ever fighting them in a fair trade.
His game plan is unique in the role: you are not trying to win lane in the normal sense. You are trying to lose lane on your terms while winning the map. Drag the enemy top laner with you, force their jungler to camp a lane that produces no kills, then cash in your Rod of Ages and Warmog's Armor spikes at minute 14-16 to become unkillable for any one enemy alone.
Recommended Build
Starting items: Doran's Shield + 1 Health Potion, which is exactly the 500 gold you start with. Corrupting Potion is no longer in the game, so the real choice is only how many potions you take: on a proxy plan the health regen matters more than the mana, because Poison Trail costs 13 mana per second and no consumable keeps up with it anyway.
Core items (in order):
Rod of Ages — the signature item. Every 60 seconds it adds 10 health, 30 mana and 3 ability power, ten times over, and on the tenth stack it hands you a free champion level. Eternity then turns damage you take into mana and every cast into a heal worth 25% of the mana spent, which is exactly what a toggled Poison Trail wants. Buy Catalyst of Aeons first for the lane sustain.
Plated Steelcaps — default boots vs AD top laners and any auto-attack carry. Swap to Mercury's Treads if the enemy team has 3+ sources of CC or 2+ AP threats.
Warmog's Armor — out-of-combat HP regen and a huge raw HP slab. Combined with Insanity Potion you can full-heal between proxies without going back to base.
Rylai's Crystal Scepter — every Q tick now applies a slow, so the enemies chasing you can never close the gap. AP plus HP makes it efficient on Singed's stat profile.
Spirit Visage — Magic Resist plus a healing amplifier that boosts Insanity Potion's regen, Warmog's regen, and Rod of Ages's per-cast heal.
Situational items:
Force of Nature — vs heavy AP poke comps with 2+ ranged mages (Brand + Karthus, Ziggs + Xerath). MR plus stacking Move Speed against magic damage is exactly the matchup Singed wants.
Kaenic Rookern — vs single-target AP burst (Syndra, Veigar, LeBlanc). Magebane recharges after 15 seconds without magic damage and absorbs a chunk of their combo. It is a damage shield, not a spell shield: it will not blank the stun, only the damage. If you need the ability itself blocked, that is Banshee's Veil.
Thornmail — vs auto-attack carries (Vayne, Tryndamere, Master Yi). The Grievous Wounds passive cuts their lifesteal and every other source of healing by 40% for 3 seconds on hit.
Zhonya's Hourglass — vs assassins (Zed, Talon, Qiyana). Stasis through the burst window lets your team peel for you while Insanity Potion is still ticking.
Hollow Radiance — vs grouped mid-range mages. The magic burn aura ticks the same targets Poison Trail already poisons.
Boots: Plated Steelcaps by default. Mercury's Treads vs heavy CC or AP. Ionian Boots of Lucidity are acceptable in late-game scaling games where you want Insanity Potion up for every fight.
Skill order: Max Q first (waveclear, proxy, main DPS), E second (more max-HP damage per Fling), W last. Take a point in R at levels 6, 11, 16.
Runes: Primary Resolve with Aftershock, Demolish, Bone Plating, Overgrowth. Secondary Sorcery with Nimbus Cloak and Gathering Storm. Swap secondary to Inspiration with Biscuit Delivery and Cosmic Insight vs early-game lane bullies (Riven, Renekton, Darius) when you need raw lane sustain to reach your proxy timing.
Pick into / Counterpicks
Draft-level matchups: when this pick shines and which champions are picked against it. Mechanical reasoning, not winrate.
Champions Singed beats
Slow melee tank without ranged poke
Seismic Shard (Q) is Malphite's only ranged tool and the slow is easy to walk through with Noxious Slipstream passive Move Speed. Ground Slam (E) needs Singed inside melee range, and Mega Adhesive (W) grounding stops him casting Unstoppable Force (R) in the first place.
MalphiteStack-scaling melee with no gap-closer
Siphoning Strike (Q) needs minion stacks to scale and Nasus has no dash — only the Wither (W) slow targets Singed. Singed proxies the wave away through the river, killing both his income and Q stack timer, while Poison Trail (Q) chips him whenever he chases through the cloud.
NasusShort-range juggernaut that needs to grab you
Facebreaker (E) is a point-blank pull and Knuckle Down (Q) needs Singed standing inside melee range. Fling (E) reverses the engage by tossing Sett over Singed's shoulder, and Noxious Slipstream passive keeps Singed running past Sett's slow wind-up to a full Grit bar.
SettShort-range juggernaut that needs to grab you
Apprehend (E) is a directional pull and Decimate (Q) outer ring needs Singed standing inside its donut. Mega Adhesive (W) grounds him during Apprehend follow-up, and Fling (E) reverses Noxian Guillotine (R) execute by repositioning Darius outside his own Hemorrhage range.
DariusMelee bruiser without ranged poke or disengage
Obliterate (Q) is a slow ground-slam and Death's Grasp (E) a short pull, both punished by Mega Adhesive (W) before he closes. Singed cannot walk out of Realm of Death (R): nowhere to kite to, so survive the duration with Insanity Potion (R) up and take the wave back after.
Mordekaiser
Champions that beat Singed
Ranged ADC top with true damage
Silver Bolts (W) deals true damage on every third auto, ignoring all defensive stats — Singed's HP and resists do nothing. Tumble (Q) resets her auto rhythm out of Mega Adhesive (W) range, and Condemn (E) knock-back interrupts Fling (E) mid-cast.
VayneRanged AP top with blind
Blinding Dart (Q) cancels Singed's auto-attacks during the Poison Trail (Q) chase window, and Toxic Shot (E) passive chips through Q range without him ever stepping into Mega Adhesive (W). Move Quick (W) speed plus Noxious Trap (R) shrooms deny every proxy path.
TeemoGrounding poke mage that shuts off Singed's escape
Miasma (W) grounds Singed and disables his Noxious Slipstream passive escape, and Twin Fang (E) auto-reset scales damage on her AP without needing to dash. Petrifying Gaze (R) stun catches Singed mid Insanity Potion (R) speed boost retreat.
CassiopeiaTrue-damage duelist
Grand Challenge (R) Vital procs deal percent-HP true damage that ignores armor and magic resist — the entire Rod of Ages plus Warmog's stack is wasted. Riposte (W) parries the Fling (E) root, removing Singed's only hard CC tool against her.
FioraCC-immune disengage berserker
Ragnarok (R) cleanses and blocks CC, so Mega Adhesive (W) stops mattering once he presses it, and Fling (E) still moves him but no longer disables him. Undertow (Q) slows and shreds armor; the axe pickup cuts up to 2.5s off its cooldown, outpacing his Slipstream retreat.

Key matchups
- Vayne / Teemo: Hard counters. Both out-range your Q and shred you with percent-HP or blind. Rush
Plated Steelcaps before Rod of Ages, freeze the wave near your turret, and ping for jungle help — do not try to "out-trade" them. - Malphite: Favorable matchup. He has to use Seismic Shard (Q) on minions to push, then has no escape if you Fling him. Use Mega Adhesive (W) to ground his Unstoppable Force (R) when he tries to engage you under your turret.
- Garen: You out-scale and out-pressure him. He needs to stand inside your Q trail for Decisive Strike damage. Proxy his wave from level 3 onwards; he cannot punish a missing Singed without a jungler.
- Darius: Dangerous pre-6. His Apprehend (E) cancels Noxious Slipstream's escape value. Wait for Bone Plating to be off cooldown before trading, save W for the moment he uses Apprehend to grab you.
- Cassiopeia: Hard counter. Her Miasma (W) grounds you back, locking out Noxious Slipstream and Insanity Potion's escape. Buy
Mercury's Treads instead of Plated Steelcaps, take Inspiration secondary, and play for jungle ganks.
Power spikes & win conditions
- Level 2: With Q and E you have your first proxy combo. Toggle Q on, walk through the minion wave, Fling the cannon back into your own minions to deny CS.
- Level 6: Insanity Potion unlocks a full chase tool. The Move Speed plus resistances let you survive a 2v1 dive long enough for your jungler to clean up, or just walk away from a failed gank.
Rod of Ages completion (~ minute 12-14): Your first big spike. Mana stops being a problem, HP climbs every minute, and Insanity Potion suddenly scales off real AP. Force the first proxy on the enemy back wave.
Warmog's Armor online (~ minute 18-20): You become genuinely uncatchable. Out-of-combat regen plus Insanity Potion plus Spirit Visage means you walk away from any solo encounter at full HP.
Common mistakes
- Toggling Q on without committing. Q drains mana every second whether it is hitting anything or not. Toggle it on only when you have a target in trail range or you are pushing through a wave; otherwise you go out of mana before your Rod of Ages stacks.
- Flinging the wrong target. Fling the closest dangerous enemy backwards into your team, not the carry sitting at the back. Throwing the engager forward into their own back line gives them the kill they were trying to set up.
- Proxying without map awareness. A proxy without a Ghost or Flash up is a free kill for the enemy jungler. Always check the river ward and the enemy jungler's last-seen location before you commit to the wave between turrets.
- Forgetting the W ground. Mega Adhesive's slow is forgettable, but the ground (blocks dashes and blinks) is the part that wins you the matchup vs Camille, Fiora, Riven, Yone. Drop it before they dash, not after.
- Building full tank with no AP. Without Rod of Ages and Rylai's, Singed does zero damage and stops being a threat. The enemy team ignores you, walks past, and kills your back line. The whole champion identity is "tank with a poison-trail threat" — kill the threat, kill the champion.
Advanced tip
Learn the W-E flip: drop Mega Adhesive on top of yourself, then Fling an enemy backwards. They land inside the puddle and get rooted — 1 to 2 seconds of hard CC (a stun-like effect that locks them in place) instead of just a slow. The trick is that the W lands at your feet, so the throw direction matters: aim Fling so the apex of the toss lands inside the W radius. In a 1v1 this is a free 20-30% of an enemy's HP because they cannot move while your Q trail keeps ticking and your team rotates onto the kill.
