Precision: Lethal Tempo amplifies the attack-speed window Lightning Crash already provides. Presence of Mind refunds mana on takedowns, Legend: Alacrity stacks more attack speed for Burst Fire spam, Coup de Grace finishes targets below 40% HP.
Sorcery secondary: Manaflow Band keeps her sustained through the early lane (Burst Fire and Ultrashock Laser both cost mana), Gathering Storm scales into the late game where Zeri farms infinite resets off Lightning Crash.
Versus heavy poke lanes (Caitlyn, Ezreal, Xerath support), swap Sorcery → Inspiration with Biscuit Delivery (free mana + HP every 2 minutes) + Cosmic Insight (extra summoner haste, more Flashes per game).
Win Condition
Reach Statikk Shiv online, then play forward in skirmishes. Use Spark Surge over walls to flank or escape, snowball Lightning Crash duration with attack hits, and shred grouped teams with full crit Burst Fire.
Weakness
Burst Fire is a skillshot blocked by minions — face-checking under hard CC supports (Blitzcrank, Leona) deletes her before Spark Surge resets. Mana-hungry early; falls behind heavy poke or hook lanes pre-Statikk Shiv.
Overview
Zeri is the hyper-mobility ADC: her Spark Surge (E) vaults walls on contact and her Lightning Crash (R) turns every fight into a runaway attack-speed window. She has no normal auto-attack — every shot is Burst Fire (Q), a skillshot that counts as an ability and a basic attack at the same time. She scales off both crit damage and on-hit, but minions block her shots in lane: stand behind your wave and the closest minion eats the bullet.
The game plan is built on mobility resets. Hit Statikk Shiv online so Burst Fire clears full waves, then skirmish around Drake using Spark Surge to flank or disengage. In a teamfight, save Ultrashock Laser (W) for an enemy backing into a wall (it converts into a long laser that crits), pop R on the enemy front line to start move-speed stacking, then weave Burst Fire into the back line with E resets. Skill expression sits in W wall conversions, E cooldown management (every hit lowers it; full attack-speed Zeri can chain three dashes in one fight), and reading when to commit R for the chase versus saving it for the disengage.
Recommended Build
Starting items:
Doran's Blade + 1
Health Potion (450 + 50 = the full 500 gold you start with). Skip Doran's Shield even into a poke lane — Burst Fire damage scales off AD, and the lifesteal node on Doran's Blade gives more sustain than the HP bar from Shield.
Core items (in order):
Statikk Shiv — first-item rush. The Energized passive procs on Burst Fire, so once Statikk is up your Q one-shots full minion waves and chains chain-damage on the support behind. Attack speed brings the 0.75-second Spark Surge reduction online more often (it was 0.5 before Patch 26.13). The larger crit reduction needs a critical Burst Fire, so it only arrives with Infinity Edge.
Berserker's Greaves — attack speed boots, moved from 25% to 30% Attack Speed in Patch 26.16. Burst Fire (Q) fires faster for it, at least until you pass its attack speed cap, past which 80% of the excess is converted into Attack Damage instead.
Mercury's Treads instead only against 3+ hard CC threats stacked on the enemy team.
Infinity Edge — biggest damage spike. Crit damage on Burst Fire is brutal: every Q is a critable attack, and IE hands you 75 Attack Damage, 25% crit chance and crits that land for 230% instead of 200%.
Navori Flickerblade — Zeri-specific powerhouse. Every Burst Fire counts as an attack, so it removes 15% of the remaining cooldown of both Spark Surge (E) and Ultrashock Laser (W), crit or not. That is what produces near-permanent E uptime in fights.
Situational items:
Rapid Firecannon — against poke lanes or longer-range ADCs (Caitlyn, Aphelios with Calibrum). Only the Energized shot gains 35% range and 40 bonus magic damage, so you poke on the charged one and step back on the others.
Lord Dominik's Regards — against tanky front lines or HP-stacking comps (Sion, Cho'Gath, Dr. Mundo). Replace Navori Flickerblade if the enemy team has 3+ tanks.
Mortal Reminder — against heavy healing comps (Soraka, Vladimir, Aatrox). Applies Grievous Wounds (a debuff that cuts healing) the moment Burst Fire tags them.
Phantom Dancer — against assassin or diver pressure (Zed, Yasuo flank, Briar). Spectral Waltz makes you Ghosted, so you walk through the diver and the minions between you and safety instead of pathing around them. That, plus 65% Attack Speed and 10% Move Speed, is the buy.
Boots:
Berserker's Greaves is default. Plated Steelcaps versus heavy auto-attack comps (Draven + Tristana), Mercury's Treads only against AP-heavy hook supports (Brand, Zyra).
Skill order: Max Q first (DPS and crit scaling on Burst Fire), W second (Ultrashock Laser cooldown for poke and slow), E last (the dash distance never changes and the ranks buy damage plus 1.5 seconds of cooldown each, from 24 down to 18). Take a point in R at levels 6, 11, 16.
Runes: Primary Precision with Lethal Tempo, Presence of Mind, Legend: Alacrity, Coup de Grace. Secondary Sorcery with Manaflow Band (sustains Q + W mana cost) and Gathering Storm for late-game scaling. Stat shards: Attack Speed / Adaptive Force / Health.
Pick into / Counterpicks
Draft-level matchups: when this pick shines and which champions are picked against it. Mechanical reasoning, not winrate.
Champions Zeri beats
Immobile late-scaling marksman
Zeri's Spark Surge E vaults walls and dodges Flame Chompers! E traps mid-flight. Jinx's Get Excited! passive movement speed only triggers on takedowns, and Switcheroo! Q rocket form is too slow to land on Zeri kiting with Lightning Crash R attack speed.
JinxImmobile late-scaling marksman
Zeri's Spark Surge E vaults walls and dodges Moonlight Vigil R and the Phase W weapon swap. Aphelios has no innate dash in his Weapon Queue System E kit, and his fixed-position weapon rotations cannot keep up with Zeri's mobility resets.
ApheliosImmobile late-scaling marksman
Zeri's Spark Surge E vaults walls and dodges Volley W cone poke and Enchanted Crystal Arrow R global stun. Ashe has no dash to chase Lightning Crash R chain mobility, and Hawkshot E vision cannot prevent the wall-vault flank approach.
AsheShort-range engage support without ranged disengage
Spark Surge E crosses walls past Leona's engage cast range — Zenith Blade E targeted dash needs line of sight, and Shield of Daybreak Q stun is melee point-and-click. Zeri then kites her with Ultrashock Laser W slow while Solar Flare R is locked behind cooldown.
LeonaShort-range engage support without ranged disengage
Spark Surge E crosses walls past Nautilus's engage cast range — Dredge Line Q hook is a single skillshot Zeri dashes through walls to dodge. Zeri then kites with Ultrashock Laser W slow while Depth Charge R chain knock-up is too telegraphed mid-fight.
Nautilus
Champions that beat Zeri
Hook support that locks her in place
Once Rocket Grab Q connects, Zeri's Spark Surge E cooldown is too long to escape — she gets pulled and dies before E comes back up. Power Fist E knock-up chains the punish, and Static Field R silence locks Zeri out of Lightning Crash R follow-up.
BlitzcrankHook support that locks her in place
Once Death Sentence Q connects, Zeri's Spark Surge E cooldown is too long to escape — she gets pulled and dies before E comes back up. Flay E knock-back chains the CC, and The Box R walls off her wall-vault escape angle entirely.
ThreshLong-range artillery mage on bot
Charged Arcanopulse Q outranges Zeri's 700-unit Burst Fire Q and pokes her below 50% HP each wave. She has no sustain and Spark Surge E is a short wall-vault, not a Cleanse against Shocking Orb E stun. Rite of the Arcane R finishes her from 5000 units away.
XerathLong-range artillery mage on bot
Bouncing Bomb Q reaches 850 units against Burst Fire Q's 700 and pokes her below 50% HP each wave. Hexplosive Minefield E zones the wall-vault landing point of Spark Surge E, and Mega Inferno Bomb R finishes her from 5000 units away.
ZiggsLane bully that out-trades her pre-Statikk Shiv
Spinning Axe Q auto-resets hit harder than Burst Fire Q while Zeri still face-checks minions blocking her shots. Blood Rush W movement burst sticks Draven onto her short-range trade window, and Stand Aside E knockback breaks the wall-vault setup.
Draven
Key matchups
- Draven: Heavily Zeri-unfavored levels 1-6. His Spinning Axe (Q) out-trades Burst Fire because you cannot auto on demand while his axes hit on every swing, and Stand Aside (E) knocks you out of your own kiting line the moment you step up. Don't fight him pre-3; freeze the wave near your turret (keep the minion line static so he must overextend to last-hit) and look for jungle dives only when he steps too far. Once you have
Statikk Shiv the matchup flips: avoid his all-in window and farm safely until then. - Caitlyn: Unfavored. Piltover Peacemaker (Q) outranges Burst Fire and Yordle Snap Trap (W) turns every bush into a hold she can headshot from. Stand behind minions (they block your Q but also hers), dodge sideways out of her Q line, and never step on bushes she has been sitting in (likely traps). Survive to two items — her teamfight scaling falls off hard against your post-R AOE (area-of-effect damage that hits everyone close, not a single target).
- Lucian: Unfavored, especially with a Nami support. Respect his level 3 all-in: Ardent Blaze (W) marks you and speeds him up, then Relentless Pursuit (E) closes the gap. Hold Spark Surge (E) for his E, not for his Q, and never throw it as poke. Get to
Statikk Shiv without dying and the lane stabilizes. - Jinx: Favored after two items. Pre-6 she has zero dash — Flame Chompers! (E) is her only self-peel and Zap! (W) is the one shot that catches you mid-strafe. Spark Surge in, fire 2-3 Q, Ultrashock Laser slow, walk away before her support reacts. Once you have R, her glass cannon body (high damage, no defenses) is a free target for the kite.
- Aphelios: Even pre-Statikk, Zeri-favored after. Track his weapon rotation; in Severum (red, lifesteal) or Calibrum (green, range marker) you can poke from outside his auto range with Burst Fire. Avoid trading when Infernum (orange, AOE) is loaded — that's his rocket-vs-rocket window and he wins it.
Power spikes & win conditions
- Level 6: First Lightning Crash unlocks the attack-speed engine. Any 2v2 skirmish where your support has CC up becomes a free kill if you can hit the nova on one champion: the resulting attack speed turns Burst Fire into a chain shred on both targets. Use it early; the cooldown is short enough that you'll have it back for the next wave.
Statikk Shiv completion (~ minute 10-12): First real spike. Burst Fire now cleaves whole minion waves in one cast and proc damage chains onto the enemy bot duo. This is when you start playing forward in lane and looking for Drake skirmish participation.
Infinity Edge online (~ minute 20-24): Hypercarry breakpoint. Crit Burst Fire one-shots squishies — any pickoff (eliminating an isolated enemy outside the teamfight) or kill triggers Coup de Grace for an extra 8% damage on the next target below 40% HP.
Navori Flickerblade online (~ minute 28-32): Late-game fantasy. Every Burst Fire takes 15% off the remaining Spark Surge cooldown, crit or not — you chain 3-4 dashes in a single fight, kiting around walls while Lightning Crash keeps stacking move speed on top. At this point any fight where you don't get one-shot first, you win.
Common mistakes
- Standing still to "auto-attack". Burst Fire is a skillshot — there is no right-click auto. If the closest target is behind a minion, the minion eats it. Always strafe and aim Q manually; the muscle memory takes 10 games to build.
- Burning Spark Surge for poke. Spark Surge is your only escape against a diver (a champion who jumps onto the back line, like Yasuo with his ulti). Once it's on cooldown you're a glass cannon (high damage, low defenses) with no answer. Save E for the dive: when a Zed or Briar lands on you, dash perpendicular to their path, not back toward your team.
- Wasting Ultrashock Laser on open ground. Base Ultrashock Laser is a mediocre poke. Aimed at terrain it becomes a wall-line that crits champions. Always look for a wall to bounce W off: river walls during Drake setup, jungle entrances pre-gank, lane bushes when an enemy backs.
- Committing Lightning Crash too early. Lightning Crash stacks move speed every time you hit a champion with an attack or ability. The first second of R is the worst — you have base speed and the nova damage already happened. Press R the moment your support engages, then Q the closest target on repeat to ramp the speed buff.
- Chasing kills outside the R window. When R drops you lose the whole stacked move speed at once. If you're deep in enemy territory when it ends, you have walking speed and no escape (Spark Surge alone won't save you across half the map). Retreat when the buff hits the last 2 seconds, even if the kill looks close.
Advanced tip
Practice the W wall bounce + Spark Surge follow-up. When an enemy is mid-screen and not next to a wall, fire Ultrashock Laser (W) at the wall behind them so the laser line forms across their retreat path; it slows and crits, locking them in place. Immediately Spark Surge (E) through the wall to land on the slowed target with the bonus magic on-hit window active. Done well it converts a mediocre W poke into a full burst combo with one Q follow-up — and the E reset on hit puts the dash right back up. The hardest part is reading the angle: practice it in Practice Tool on the jungle walls until the geometry is automatic.
