Press the Attack needs three consecutive autos, then amplifies your own damage by 8% for the rest of the fight. Presence of Mind sustains mana under Q + W spam, Legend: Alacrity feeds Ricochet bounces, Coup de Grace closes low-HP runners under R.
Sorcery secondary: Manaflow Band is critical because Sivir burns 55-75 mana per Q and 60 per W cast — without it she runs dry by the second lane shove. Gathering Storm scales her late-game AD into the teamfight phase where Ricochet starts deleting clumped backlines.
Against poke or hook lanes (Caitlyn / Jhin / Blitzcrank / Morgana), swap Sorcery to Resolve with Second Wind (HP regen after taking enemy damage) plus Overgrowth (bonus max health as minions die near you) to soak harass without recalling.
Win Condition
Shove the wave with Ricochet for bot prio, then turn On The Hunt into engage: speed-buff onto a hooked target or an objective. After Essence Reaver, kite fights with Q poke and Spell Shield key abilities.
Weakness
Short 500 auto-attack range means hard engage and longer-range marksmen out-poke her in lane. If Spell Shield is misused on a non-key ability, divers like Yasuo or Samira erase her instantly.
Overview
Sivir is the textbook waveclear-utility marksman: a bot lane carry whose entire identity is to dominate map tempo through pushing power and team-wide mobility. Her Boomerang Blade (Q) is a long-range skillshot that damages twice, her Ricochet (W) turns every auto-attack into a wave-shoving multi-hit, and her ultimate On The Hunt (R) speed-boosts the whole team for engage, disengage, or objective rotations. The catch: her base auto-attack range is only 500 (shorter than most marksmen), so she trades raw lane bullying for the highest waveclear and the most utility in the bot pool.
The game plan is straightforward: shove the lane with W to deny enemy farm and create recall windows, save Spell Shield (E) to nullify the enemy's one key ability (Blitzcrank's Rocket Grab, Morgana's Dark Binding, Nautilus's Dredge Line), and convert mid-game tempo into objectives by speeding the team onto Drake or Rift Herald with R. Skill expression sits in E timing — predicting which ability to block — and in R usage: dropping it as an engage onto an isolated target is much higher value than burning it defensively.
Recommended Build
Starting items:
Doran's Blade + 1 Health Potion. Skip
Doran's Ring even though Sivir is mana-hungry — Manaflow Band and Essence Reaver cover mana costs and the AD + sustain from Doran's Blade matters more in the level 1-3 trade window.
Core items (in order):
Essence Reaver — the perfect first item for Sivir. The basic-attack mana refund makes Q and W spam sustainable, and the ability haste lowers Boomerang Blade cooldown to the point where it lines up with every wave.
Berserker's Greaves — attack speed boots.
Mercury's Treads only if the enemy team has 3+ hard CC threats that can chain-lock you past Spell Shield.
Navori Flickerblade — attack speed and crit, but the real reason is Transcendence: every basic attack cuts 15% off the remaining cooldown of her basic abilities. In an extended fight under Ricochet, that effectively halves Q's cooldown.
Infinity Edge — your largest damage spike. Sivir's Boomerang Blade and Ricochet bounces both crit, so IE multiplies every cast — at this point you start one-shotting backline targets through W bounces.
Situational items:
Lord Dominik's Regards — into tanky front lines or HP-stacking comps (Sion, Cho'Gath, Dr. Mundo). Replace Navori Flickerblade or Infinity Edge if the enemy team has 3+ tanks.
Mortal Reminder — into heavy healing comps (Soraka, Vladimir, Aatrox, Yuumi). Applies Grievous Wounds (a debuff that cuts healing by 40%) the moment you tag a target.
Bloodthirster — into poke or burst lanes that chip your HP between fights. Life steal plus an overheal shield keeps you topped up without forced recalls.
Phantom Dancer — into assassin or diver pressure on you (Zed flank, Yasuo, Samira). Spectral Waltz makes you Ghosted, and that plus the movement speed buys you the step you need to walk out of range and re-cast Spell Shield.
Boots: Berserker's Greaves is default. Mercury's Treads only against heavy CC chains like Leona + Lissandra mid.
Skill order: Max Q first (poke and waveclear scaling), W second (Ricochet attack speed and bounce damage), E last (Spell Shield's block doesn't change with rank, only its cooldown and refund values). Take a point in R at levels 6, 11, 16.
Runes: Primary Precision with Press the Attack, Presence of Mind, Legend: Alacrity, Coup de Grace. Secondary Sorcery with Manaflow Band and Gathering Storm, or swap to Resolve with Second Wind and Bone Plating if the enemy bot lane is heavy poke (Caitlyn + Jhin, Brand support).
Pick into / Counterpicks
Draft-level matchups: when this pick shines and which champions are picked against it. Mechanical reasoning, not winrate.
Champions Sivir beats
Single-target skill-shot CC support
Dark Binding (Q) is a 1250-range root that is Morgana's entire engage tool. Spell Shield (E) pre-emptively blocks the cast, restores Sivir health, and grants a move-speed burst — denying the only setup that lets Soul Shackles (R) chain stun connect.
MorganaHook support with single skill-shot pull
Rocket Grab (Q) is a long-range hook that is Blitzcrank's entire engage tool. Spell Shield (E) blocks the hook on prediction, denies the Power Fist (E) follow-up knock-up, and restores Sivir health plus the passive Fleet of Foot speed burst on the dodge.
BlitzcrankArtillery mage with telegraphed poke
Arcanopulse (Q) and Eye of Destruction (W) have long cast animations and Rite of the Arcane (R) is a stationary channel. Spell Shield (E) blocks the priority poke ability, while Boomerang Blade (Q) and Ricochet (W) shove the wave faster than he can clear.
XerathSlow-paced ADC with no dash
90 Caliber Net (E) only pushes Caitlyn back a short distance and is her only mobility tool. Ricochet (W) shoves the wave at level 4 faster than her Piltover Peacemaker (Q) clear, and On The Hunt (R) speed-engages onto her before Ace in the Hole (R) channel can fire.
CaitlynStationary backline scaler with cast-time spells
Spell Shield (E) absorbs Requiem (R) on prediction, restoring health plus a move-speed burst. Requiem is a 3-second channel and Lay Waste (Q) is a delayed blast he has to land on a moving target, so Boomerang Blade (Q) out-pokes him and Ricochet (W) shoves him under tower.
Karthus
Champions that beat Sivir
On-hit hyperscaler without a single key ability
Silver Bolts (W) applies true damage on every third auto and Night Hunter passive grants chase speed — neither uses a single ability for Spell Shield (E) to invalidate. Tumble (Q) plus Final Hour (R) invisibility keep her sticking on Sivir's 500 auto-attack range.
VayneEarly-game burst ADC with short cooldowns
Spinning Axe (Q) refreshes off auto-attacks for permanent bonus damage, and League of Draven passive stacks gold off every Q-empowered kill. Blood Rush (W) speed plus Stand Aside (E) knock-aside out-trade Sivir before On The Hunt (R) team speed comes online.
DravenAll-in melee carry with damage immunity
Blade Whirl (W) is a 1.5-second projectile-destroying spin that deletes Boomerang Blade (Q) outright. Wild Rush (E) closes onto Sivir inside her 500 auto range, and Inferno Trigger (R) melts her stacked HP before Spell Shield (E) can block a key ability.
SamiraLong-range on-hit marksman that out-poke 500 range
Pierce (Q) plus Rend (E) execute punish Sivir's static stance because Spell Shield (E) blocks abilities, not stacked on-hit spears. Martial Poise passive hops on every auto from outside the Ricochet (W) range, and Fate's Call (R) saves her support from R engage.
KalistaLong-range on-hit marksman support
Piercing Darkness (Q) heals her ADC through the wave and refunds its cooldown on every attack, while Absolution passive soul stacks beat Sivir's mid-game tempo. Last Embrace (W) is a delayed root that Spell Shield (E) blocks but Dawning Shadow (R) global shield saves the carry.

Key matchups
- Caitlyn: Slightly Sivir-unfavored levels 1-5 because Caitlyn's Q poke outranges your autos and shoves equally fast. Don't fight her pre-3 — last-hit from max range, eat the chip, then trade only when she's used her Q on the wave. After Essence Reaver you out-shove her, and your R turns any flank from your support into a Caitlyn kill.
- Jhin: Even matchup decided by ability discipline. Block his W (Deadly Flourish) with Spell Shield — it's his only setup tool for a kill, and removing it forces him to fish for a fourth-bullet auto, which you can sidestep with Fleet of Foot. Respect his fourth bullet (massive damage) and keep your support out of brush so they can't get rooted.
- Lucian: Unfavored levels 1-3, even after level 6. His Q (Piercing Light) double-procs his passive and bursts you under tower if you walk forward — freeze the wave near your turret, wait for level 3, then trade only when he's burned his E (Relentless Pursuit). Your R speed-buff matches his level 6 power spike.
- Vayne: Heavily Sivir-favored levels 1-9, hard counter post-11. Shove the wave hard with W to deny her CS, freeze when you can't recall, and force her under tower at every wave. Once she has Blade of the Ruined King plus Phantom Dancer she out-DPSes you in extended trades — by then, you should be playing for picks with R, not duels.
- Samira: Heavily Sivir-unfavored. Her W Blade Whirl shreds Boomerang Blade mid-flight, and her ultimate Inferno Trigger ignores positioning. Save Spell Shield for her E (Wild Rush — the dash through an enemy or minion that is her gap-closer), not for the W spin — without the dash she can't reach you to start the all-in.
Power spikes & win conditions
- Level 4: Q + W maxed first ranks. You out-shove every bot lane pairing in the game. Use this window to roam mid or recall on a wave that crashes under enemy tower.
- Level 6: First
On The Hunt unlocks engage. Speed-buff your support onto a hook target or charge a backed-off lane for a kill. R + Flash forward is a viable engage with a Leona or Nautilus duo.
Essence Reaver completion (~ minute 10-12): Mana wall removed. You can Q + W on cooldown without running dry, and the lane shove gets oppressive. Force first turret plates and rotate to Drake.
Infinity Edge online (~ minute 22-26): Your largest damage spike. Ricochet bounces now crit through the entire enemy team if they group on a choke. Force objective fights here — Soul Drake or Baron — with R as the engage.
Common mistakes
- Burning Spell Shield on the first ability you see. Spell Shield has a long cooldown (24s base). Wasting it on a Brand W or Lux E (low-impact spells) leaves you naked for the actual setup tool (Morgana Q, Blitzcrank Q). Identify the enemy's win-condition ability before lane and save E for that exact spell.
- Using R defensively when you could engage. On The Hunt is best as an engage tool, not a panic button. Speeding up the team to chase a kill or flip an objective is dramatically higher value than using R to escape — if you're being chased, Fleet of Foot plus Phantom Dancer usually does the job.
- Standing at max auto-attack range in team fights. Sivir's 500 auto range means "max range" still puts you inside enemy poke range. Stand at the second-furthest position so a flanking assassin can't delete you uncontested before your support reacts.
- Q-ing flat walls of minions instead of waves with champions. Boomerang Blade deals reduced damage after each enemy hit. Aim Q so it lines up an enemy champion first (no minions blocking) — that way the front-loaded damage hits them, not the wave.
- Forgetting Ricochet attack-speed buff window. Ricochet is on a cooldown and only buffs your next several autos. Activate it before walking into the fight, not after you're already trading — otherwise the buff expires while you're still kiting.
Advanced tip
Practice the "R engage flash" combo for surprise kills. With On The Hunt active you and your team get a large move speed buff for several seconds; if you Flash forward at the start of the buff, your forward arrival range is a Flash length plus a couple of seconds of buffed move speed — far enough to catch an enemy ADC who thought they were safely behind their support. Pair it with a hook support (Blitzcrank, Nautilus, Thresh): you R, they hook on your speed-up, and the rest of the team rides the buff to finish the fight. This converts what looks like a 5v5 stalemate at Baron pit into a clean 5v4 pick by tying the entire team's tempo to a single forward commit.
