Electrocute procs on the E + AA + Q all-in for flat burst every trade. Sudden Impact adds 20-80 true damage the moment Audacity or Terrashape ends, since both are dashes. Grisly Mementos gives trinket haste for warding and Treasure Hunter snowballs gold.
Precision secondary: Presence of Mind refunds mana on damage and restores 15 percent of the pool on takedowns, so you keep casting in skirmishes. Last Stand boosts damage below 60 percent HP, which is exactly where Audacity lands you after committing.
Against late-scaling teamfight comps (Vladimir, Cassiopeia, double frontline) swap Precision to Sorcery with Transcendence (5 ability haste at level 5 and 5 more at level 8) and Gathering Storm (adaptive force every 10 minutes) for prolonged fights.
Win Condition
Roam side lanes with Terrashape brush vaults, then snowball with E + Q-rock + R combos: pin a squishy against a wall and the AOE stun lasts long enough to finish before peel arrives.
Weakness
No terrain near (brush, water, wall) means no Q element proc — damage and stun crash. Spell shields and point-click crowd control cancel your all-in mid-channel.
Overview
Qiyana is a melee AD assassin who turns terrain into damage. Her kit is built around Terrashape (W) — a short dash that picks up the closest element (brush, water, or wall) and enchants her next Edge of Ixtal (Q). The rock-enchanted Q is a linear stun against terrain, the grass Q is an area-of-effect with a brief stealth (a window where you cannot be seen), the water Q slows. Every fight starts by checking what is near you, then weaving W → AA → Q for the passive proc and the element bonus.
Her game plan in mid is straightforward to describe and brutal to execute: hit level 6, leave mid through the side bushes with W speed, dive a side laner from a flank, and detonate a wall with R behind them for a long stun. Without terrain her damage and stun collapse, so half the skill curve is map awareness: knowing which bush to engage from, which wall to ult into, and when to abandon mid for a side rotation.
Recommended Build
Starting items: Doran's Blade + Health Potion. Skip the shield variant — you want trading stats, not pure defense, because your first lane priority is to land your passive procs and force out summoner spells.
Core items (in order):
Profane Hydra — first spike. AOE auto-attack chain helps wave clear (your Q is short range), the active button adds a long-range execute that pairs with your R detonation.
Ionian Boots of Lucidity — ability haste lets you spam W for roams and shaves time off your R between objective fights.
Edge of Night — the spell shield (a barrier that blocks the next enemy ability, damaging or not) is the single most important item in your build. It eats a Lux Q, an Ahri E charm, a Veigar E cage, or a Morgana Q before you commit your dash chain.
Voltaic Cyclosword — the Energized attack, charged by any ability hit, deals a share of the target's current health as bonus physical damage and hands you extra lethality for four seconds.
Situational items:
Hubris — vs squishy enemy team. Stacking AD on takedowns turns one kill into a snowball that one-shots backline targets.
Serylda's Grudge — vs tank-stacking comps (Ornn, Sion, K'Sante). Armor penetration plus a slow on damaging abilities lets you cut through HP bars instead of bouncing off them.
Maw of Malmortius — vs heavy magic damage threats (Veigar, Brand, Syndra). The magic shield pops on the burst window and saves you from a one-shot combo.
Death's Dance — vs squads with two strong physical damage dealers (e.g. Yasuo + Caitlyn). A share of all incoming damage is dealt to you over 3 seconds instead of instantly, and a takedown wipes what is left, giving you time to peel away.
Guardian Angel — late-game insurance when you are the carry. A second life after each fight commit lets you all-in without fear of focus.
Boots: Ionian Boots of Lucidity by default. Swap to
Plated Steelcaps vs heavy auto-attack teams (3+ marksmen or on-hit melee like Master Yi top), or
Mercury's Treads vs hard crowd control teams (2+ stuns or charms on short cooldowns).
Skill order: Max Q first (waveclear plus main damage), E second (lower cooldown means more all-ins per minute), W last. Take a point in R at levels 6, 11, 16.
Runes: Primary Domination with Electrocute, Sudden Impact, Grisly Mementos, Treasure Hunter. Secondary Precision with Presence of Mind and Last Stand.
Pick into / Counterpicks
Draft-level matchups: when this pick shines and which champions are picked against it. Mechanical reasoning, not winrate.
Champions Qiyana beats
Immobile AP burst caster mid
Veigar has zero dash — Audacity's 650-unit targeted dash closes inside Event Horizon cage before he can predict the angle, and rock-empowered Edge of Ixtal wall-stun plus Supreme Display of Talent R detonation chains AoE stun on him.
VeigarImmobile control AP mage with Rebirth
Anivia has zero dash — Audacity's 650-unit targeted dash closes inside Flash Frost range, and rock-empowered Edge of Ixtal wall-stun cancels Glacial Storm channel zone control.
AniviaSphere-stacking AP control mage
Syndra has zero dash — Audacity's 650-unit targeted dash closes inside Dark Sphere stack range, and rock-empowered Edge of Ixtal wall-stun cancels Scatter the Weak stun setup.
SyndraMana-gated spell-combo AP mage
Ryze has zero dash — Audacity's 650-unit targeted dash closes inside Overload range before he can build mana stacks, and rock-empowered Edge of Ixtal wall-stun cancels Rune Prison root setup.
RyzeSpirit-veil short-blink AP mage
Across the Veil is a 700-unit leap on a long cooldown, so Audacity's 650-unit dash catches Aurora between charges, and rock-empowered Edge of Ixtal wall-stun beats The Weirding, which only slows. Between Worlds leaves her tied to one zone to reposition.
Aurora
Champions that beat Qiyana
Long-range stun-spear mid laner
Pantheon's Shield Vault stuns through Qiyana's Terrashape dash before she picks up an element, denying the Edge of Ixtal proc and the wall-stun setup. Comet Spear at long range pokes her out of W brush stealth approaches.
PantheonPool-untargetable AP scaling mage
Vladimir's Sanguine Pool makes him untargetable for 2 seconds the instant Audacity connects — Qiyana's full burst lands on empty ground while Vlad emerges and finishes her under a Hemoplague that amplifies everything his team lands.
VladimirSelf-stasis AP control mage
Lissandra's Frozen Tomb R self-cast puts her in 2.5-second stasis — Qiyana's full burst hits a frozen statue while her teammates retaliate. Ring of Frost roots her the moment Audacity drops her into melee range.
LissandraWind-wall projectile-blocking skirmisher mid
Yasuo's Wind Wall blocks Edge of Ixtal's rock projectile — the long-range stun that sets up Qiyana's R — forcing her to engage in melee without crowd control prep. Steel Tempest tornado knocks Qiyana out of Audacity dash mid-cast.
Yasuo
Key matchups
- Veigar: You out-pressure him pre-6. Hold E for after his W is on cooldown, then dash in, rock-stun him against the back wall, and R-detonate. If you eat his E cage, you are dead — always save
Edge of Night active for his cage. - Cassiopeia: Bad lane. Her Twin Fang punishes every dash you make through her Miasma. Farm safely until
Profane Hydra, then look for jungle-assisted ganks rather than a solo all-in. - Pantheon: His Shield Vault stuns through your Terrashape dash. Never use W to engage when his W is up — bait it on a minion or wait for his cooldown.
- Yasuo / Yone: Yasuo's Wind Wall blocks your rock-Q stun projectile, while Yone has no wall, only the Spirit Cleave shield. Engage from a bush he cannot see, force the wall, then re-engage 25 seconds later when Wind Wall is on cooldown. Build
Profane Hydra to clear waves faster than them. - Syndra: Even matchup, decided by who lands the first all-in. She will Q-W-E stun you on engage; bait her E by dashing slightly forward then back with W, then E-Q-R when her stun is on cooldown.
Power spikes & win conditions
- Level 2: With Q and E, you have a 3-hit trade (E + AA + Q, still without the W enchant). Force a hard trade on the second wave and proc Electrocute — most mid laners cannot match a 25-30% HP swing here.
- Level 6: First Supreme Display of Talent unlocks one-shot potential. With a rock wall behind a squishy target, E-Q-R combo deals roughly 70-85% of a 1500 HP target's bar in 1.5 seconds.
Profane Hydra completion (~ minute 12-14): Wave control flips. You can shove and roam side lanes with the active button, generating side-lane kills that snowball into objective control.
Edge of Night online (~ minute 17-19): Picks become reliable. The spell shield eats a key CC ability that would otherwise interrupt your all-in, and your R-wall stun chain finishes the kill before the enemy team can respond.
Common mistakes
- Engaging without checking your nearest element. If there is no brush, no water, and no wall within 1100 units of W, your Q has no enchant — it becomes a short cone with no stun at all. Always pre-load W on a side bush before engaging.
- Using R against an open field. Supreme Display of Talent does roughly nothing without terrain to detonate. The stun length scales with the wall behind the target; engage at the lane wall or the jungle wall, never at mid lane center.
- Maxing W or E first. Q max gives you the best damage per level and the cheapest waveclear; skipping it slows your snowball by 2-3 levels.
- Wasting Audacity to escape. E has no defensive component — it dashes you into the target. If you need to retreat, save W for the brush stealth or burn
Edge of Night active instead. - Holding R for the perfect detonation. A long wall stun is the dream, but a short wall stun on a low-HP target wins more games than a wasted ult. If they are under 30% HP, dump it.
Advanced tip
Practice the Audacity cancel: cast E on the target, then immediately recast W mid-dash to pick up a new element. Audacity completes in roughly 0.4 seconds, Terrashape takes priority on the hit frame, and you land with a fresh element ready for Q — effectively turning your single combo into a two-element rotation (rock Q for stun, then grass Q for AOE follow-up). This lets you one-shot two squishy targets in a row, which is the difference between a kill and a teamfight win on minute 18-22.
