Stick to one target with Void Surge dashes and Endless Banquet true-damage stacks until it falls. Bank Lavender stacks off every takedown. Press R only with a Void Coral on the ground.
Weakness
Hard CC (stuns, knock-ups, suppress) stops her from casting Q at all and holds her inside the damage. With no target to commit on she has no ranged threat and folds to heavy peel.
Overview
Bel'Veth is an on-hit fighter (= her damage comes from basic attacks plus item effects that trigger on each attack, not from her abilities) who weaves dashes between autos. Death in Lavender (P) runs two mechanics at once. Every takedown within 3 seconds of her damaging the target banks permanent Lavender stacks — 2 from a champion or an epic monster (= a big neutral objective like Drake, Rift Herald or Baron), 1 from a monster or a large minion — each worth 0.1%-2% bonus attack speed by level. Separately, every ability cast grants ghosting (= she walks through units) and 20% bonus attack speed for 3 seconds; the pre-rework version was a pool capped at 6 stacks that her autos drained one per hit, so the buff now lives off a single cast and is never gated behind reaching six.
Void Surge (Q) is where Patch 16.15 actually changed her, and it carries two different cooldowns. Confusing them will make you misplay the champion:
- a per-direction cooldown of 16 / 15 / 14 / 13 / 12 seconds by rank, untouched by the patch. This is the one attack speed shortens: 1% bonus attack speed converts into 0.2 ability haste (nerfed from 0.25), and a cooldown becomes base × 100 / (100 + haste). Berserker's Greaves gives 25% attack speed = 5 ability haste, so a rank-5 direction drops from 12 seconds to roughly 11.4.
- a shared lockout of 4 / 3.25 / 2.5 / 1.75 / 1 second between any two casts, new in this patch (it was a flat 1 second at every rank before). This is the anti-spam half of the rework: at rank 1 you get one dash every 4 seconds, whichever way you point it.
Endless Banquet (R) adds true damage (= ignores armor and magic resist) to every basic attack on the same target; its active eats a Void Coral — dropped when she takes down a champion or an epic monster — to enter the true form.
Her game plan is to snowball (= turn a small early lead into a much bigger one): clear camps, gank a lane (= ambush a laner with the jungler's help), fight at level 6, eat the coral, chain the next fight. Patch 16.15 was not a pure nerf. Her base stats fell (attack speed 0.85 → 0.67, attack speed ratio 0.85 → 0.67, attack damage 60 → 55, armor 32 → 28, health 610 → 580), though armor growth went up 4.7 → 5 and health growth 105 → 110, so the gap closes as she levels. The kit was paid back too: the basic attack damage modifier went to 100% from 75% and the attack cast time to 0.22 from 0.25, so every auto lands harder and faster; Void Surge (Q) base damage is 12/14/16/18/20 (from 0/5/10/15/20), Above and Below (W) 80/140/200/260/320 (from 70/110/150/190/230), and the true form grants 100/250/400 bonus health (from 100/150/200).
Recommended Build
Starting items:
Gustwalker Hatchling +
Refillable Potion. Killing monsters upgrades the Hatchling and boosts Smite (the jungler's summoner spell: a burst hit on one target, used to clear camps and steal objectives).
Core items (in order):
Kraken Slayer — every third basic attack adds bonus physical damage on-hit, scaling with the target's missing health. Bel'Veth is the only champion who by default can push past both the enforced attack speed limit of 3.003 and the technical cap (raised to 9999 for her), so on-hit output pays her back harder than anyone else.
Berserker's Greaves — attack speed, which on her is also cooldown reduction on the per-direction Void Surge (Q) timer through the conversion above. Her attack speed ratio fell to 0.67, so each point buys less raw DPS while keeping full value on the Q.
Terminus — attacks against champions alternate Light and Dark: the resistances land on one attack, the 10% armor penetration and 10% magic penetration (= ignoring part of the enemy's defenses) on the next.
Bloodthirster — lifesteal (heals you for a share of the damage you deal) plus an overheal shield (excess healing becomes a temporary shield). The survival you need to hold Royal Maelstrom (E).
Guinsoo's Rageblade — attacks grant 8% attack speed for 3 seconds, stacking 4 times; fully stacked, every third attack applies on-hit effects twice. The 4th attack that completes the stacks also starts the doubling counter, so the first doubled on-hit lands exactly on the 6th auto of a long fight — then it doubles Kraken Slayer and Terminus.
Situational items:
Wit's End — magic resist plus on-hit magic damage against AP damage (= damage from spells, not auto-attacks). It replaces Bloodthirster, not Terminus.
Sundered Sky — the first auto on each champion crits (= roughly double damage) and heals you, buying back tempo in skirmishes (= small 1v1 or 2v2 jungle fights, not full 5v5s).
Mortal Reminder — any physical damage applies 40% Grievous Wounds (= cuts the target's healing), so Void Surge (Q) and Royal Maelstrom (E) carry it too, not only your autos.
Hullbreaker — bonus damage to structures plus resistances for your nearby siege and super minions: it takes towers while you split-push (= pressure a side lane alone while your team plays elsewhere), it does not clear the wave faster.
Maw of Malmortius — conditional trigger: only magic damage that would drop you below 30% HP grants the shield (3 seconds) and 10% omnivamp until the end of combat. Sitting at 25% HP with nothing magical incoming does nothing.
Boots: swap the default Berserker's Greaves for
Plated Steelcaps only into double-AD comps (= two strong physical-damage carries, e.g. Caitlyn + Master Yi).
Skill order: Max Q first, then E, then W. Ranks in Q raise the base damage and cut the shared lockout from 4 seconds to 1 — that is what restores your dash tempo, since the per-direction timer only walks from 16 to 12. E second is a survival pick, not a damage pick: Patch 16.15 cut its missing-health modifier from 0%-300% to 0%-100%, while each rank still raises the damage reduction (20 / 30 / 40 / 50 / 60%) and drops the cooldown from 24 to 12 seconds. R at levels 6, 11, 16.
Runes: Runes are passive bonuses you pick before the game starts. Primary Precision (the auto-attack tree) with Press the Attack (three attacks on one target consume the stacks for 40–174 bonus adaptive damage by level and grant you, not your team, 8% increased damage against that target until 5 seconds after you leave combat with it; the attack that procs it does not benefit), Triumph (heal on takedown), Legend: Alacrity (100 points per takedown on a champion or epic monster, 25 per large monster, 4 per minion; 100 points is one stack, 10 stacks are 18% attack speed), Coup de Grace (more damage to low-HP targets). Secondary Resolve with Second Wind + Revitalize. Inspiration with Cosmic Insight (+18 summoner spell haste, +10 item haste) is the calm-game alternative — but skip Magical Footwear: it blocks every boot purchase until minute 12, and Berserker's Greaves second is the whole point of the order above.
Pick into / Counterpicks
Draft-level matchups: when this pick shines and which champions are picked against it. Mechanical reasoning, not winrate.
Champions Belveth beats
Tank jungler with a single charged gap-closer
Bandage Toss (Q) is an 1100-range dash and he banks two charges he can chain 3s apart, so bait both out before you commit. Once they are gone his engage is over, and Void Surge (Q) keeps you outside the 550 radius of Curse of the Sad Mummy (R).
AmumuSquishy ranged jungler
Karthus has no mobility outside Flash, so the four directions of Void Surge (Q) shut down every kite attempt. Accept that Death Defied hands him 7 untargetable seconds of Defile (E) after he dies: step off the corpse instead of standing in it.
KarthusSquishy ranged carry jungler
Dance of Arrows (Q) only chains while she stands in her Wolf's Frenzy (W) zone; outside it she has one 9s dash against your four directions. Nobody dies inside Lamb's Respite (R): dash out, wait the 4s, then re-engage — your Endless Banquet (R) stacks survive the disengage.
KindredScaling skirmisher without early CC
Master Yi has no early CC and Alpha Strike (Q) untargetability is short, so Bel'Veth wins the jungle skirmishes before he reaches level 6. That window is Yi-specific: cash it into objectives before Highlander (R) and Wuju Style (E) come online.
Master YiBurst leap assassin
Crescent Strike (Q) only marks with Moonlight: the chase is Lunar Rush (E), whose cooldown drops to 0.25s when that mark is consumed. Void Surge (Q) dashes weave out of that reset chain and the Moonfall (R) pull, and Endless Banquet (R) true form out-DPSs her after the burst.
Diana
Champions that beat Belveth
Jungler with stacking Frost hard CC
Permafrost (E) is the real problem: four Frost stacks from Sejuani's attacks and her melee allies land a 1-second stun that freezes Bel'Veth's on-hit pattern. Glacial Prison (R) is a linear skillshot, so the four directions of Void Surge (Q) can actually dodge it.
SejuaniTank with a damage-return window
Defensive Ball Curl (W) is the only damage return: while it is up, every basic attack on Rammus takes magic damage back, and Frenzying Taunt (E) forces Bel'Veth to keep swinging into it. It lasts 7 seconds. If you cannot afford that pause, disengage back onto a camp.
RammusStrong early invade jungler
Bel'Veth's first clear is okay but not bullying. Lee Sin invades at level 3 with Sonic Wave (Q) plus Resonating Strike while her Void Surge (Q) is still rank 1. From level 6 he adds Dragon's Rage (R) on top, and snowballs from there.
Lee SinSustain skirmisher jungler
Blood Frenzy (W) self-taunt locks onto Bel'Veth in melee where Snack Attack (W) plus Crimson Curse passive sustain out-duels her on-hit. Chilling Scream (E) cancels Royal Maelstrom (E) auto-pilot mid-channel.
BriarBurst pickoff jungler with channel R
Terrify (Q) fear breaks the Void Surge (Q) dash chain mid-cast. Crowstorm (R) ambush during Bel'Veth's Void Coral form is a free engage and Bountiful Harvest (W) drain heals through her on-hit during the fear window.
Fiddlesticks
Key matchups
- Lee Sin: Ward your buffs and refuse every fight before level 4: his level-3 invade with Sonic Wave (Q) plus Resonating Strike is the one you cannot win. Dragon's Rage (R) only joins from level 6, so treat the two timings separately.
- Master Yi: Kill him before minute 20 or trade objectives (= take a Drake or Herald while he farms elsewhere) so he never reaches four items.
- Karthus: Dash on top of him and commit, then step off the corpse the second he dies — his passive keeps casting for 7 seconds.
- Sejuani: Never engage (= start the fight) without Flash up and an ally in position to peel (= stop the threat reaching you). The stun that ruins you cannot be sidestepped.
- Rammus: Back off when Defensive Ball Curl (W) goes up: it lasts 7 seconds, and Frenzying Taunt (E) is there to keep you swinging into the return. If you cannot spend those 7 seconds waiting, disengage back onto a camp and re-commit on the next window.
Power spikes & win conditions
A power spike is a moment when the champion suddenly becomes much stronger than a minute earlier — usually when a new ability or item comes online.
- Level 3 (after the first three camps): Q-W-E unlocked, but on a 4-second lockout you answer a gank with the W knock-up (= enemies launched briefly into the air) and one dash, nothing more. Take a clean clear and an early Scuttle (the river crab: vision plus a small movement-speed buff).
- Level 6: Endless Banquet (R) comes online. Its true damage stacks without limit on champions but caps at 8 on epic monsters, so a Smite fight has a hard ceiling. The active is an opener, not just a transformation: eating a coral slows nearby enemies from 25% up to 96% during the cast, detonates for 150/200/250 (+150% AP) (+20% of the target's missing health) true damage — capped at 1500 against monsters — heals you for 100/250/400 (+150% bonus AD), and refreshes the true form. That form lasts 45 seconds at 0 Lavender stacks, 90 at 40, and never expires at 80.
- Level 9 (Q rank 5): the shared lockout bottoms out at 1 second. Before this you dash to commit, after it you dash to kite; in the true form the dash also crosses walls.
- 80 Lavender stacks: the true form stops expiring, and since camps and large minions bank stacks too, farming feeds the same bar as skirmishing.
Kraken Slayer +
Berserker's Greaves (4100 gold): first real damage spike. You can duel most junglers in their own jungle and dive (= go under the enemy tower to kill anyway, eating tower shots) a low-HP laner.
Terminus completion (7100 gold): with three items, armor and magic resist on squishy (= low-defense) targets stop mattering. Group for the second drake and the Baron timer.- Enhanced Void Coral (Baron, the Rift Herald in the pit, Voidgrubs): it no longer stretches the form — the duration is the same 45/90/permanent from stacks either way. What it adds is Void Remora: minions dying near you, allied and enemy alike, spawn as yours. That makes Herald plus an enhanced coral a siege tool and a Drake coral (a normal one) not. Voidgrubs are a one-shot window: the camp spawns at 8:00, once per game, and despawns at 14:45.
Common mistakes
- Holding E for the full duration every time. Royal Maelstrom (E) is a 1.5-second channel (= she stands still and keeps casting, open to interruption) and you cannot bail out instantly: the recast unlocks only 0.75 seconds in, and any other cast also ends it, so a reflex Q throws the rest away. Use it deliberately to soak one rotation of damage (e.g. a Veigar W cage), then recast to resume auto-attacking. At rank 1 it is a 24-second cooldown.
- Pressing R without a Void Coral nearby. No coral on the ground, no active: the button does nothing. The base combo is Q → AA → W → AA → E, and R goes in only when a coral is there.
- Trying to 1v1 the enemy jungler at level 2. Her stats got worse and her autos got better, so the net is roughly flat — which still leaves her early duel mediocre. If a Lee Sin or Xin Zhao invades at level 2-3, leave the camp and ping: dying there hands them the snowball.
- Ignoring tempo on Void Coral. A dropped coral lasts 15 seconds, then it is gone. Kill an enemy at minute 6, skip the coral, and you wasted the reason you killed them. Walk over it before recalling (= the channel back to base).
Advanced tip
Use Above and Below (W) as a Q reset, and be precise about which direction it gives back: the W refreshes the Void Surge (Q) cooldown in the direction you cast the W, not the one you dashed from. So the clean 1v1 pattern is Q through the target (it is now behind you) → AA → W back onto it, which refreshes that backward direction, → Q backward through it to disengage. Every cast in the loop also renews the ghosting from Death in Lavender (P), so the sequence runs through minions and camps without getting stuck on a body. What the reset buys you is not a free extra dash — the shared lockout still gates any two casts, which below Q rank 5 is the real constraint — but reusing the same direction long before its 16-to-12-second timer would be up. Never plan a fight around a dash chain you do not have yet.
